Leadership in Project Management
I think Rod Chambers is right, leading is the right way in managing a project. If there is a need to stay late, you have to be in the project, you have to set a good example of what a leader is:
1. Always be on time
2. Pick up small items that are left off.
3. Be the last person to go home
4. Be honest
5. Assume ownership
6. Care for your workers and their safety. Try "shepherding"
7. Find time to listen.

Project Leadership Style
In projects, you should have a leadership style combining guiding, participative and training styles, to motivate the work team clearing them how their work is important for the organization. In this way their commitment to the objectives is maximized.
Also it is important to have the work team participating in the goals and concerns of the projects to obtain a working participatory environment.
Finally it is important to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the work team, and link to their personal expectations and careers.

Leadership in Project Management
A project leader should have a broad vision and good understanding of the most important project issues and problems. He/she must have a problem solving mindset.
In projects where all processes are dependent on each other's completion, time management skills are essential.
Project manager needs to rasise the moral of his/her staff high so that every single person linked with the completion of a process understands the importance of his/her job.

Project Leadership: Core Values & Rite of Passages
A project leader introduces the core principles as the rite of passage for the staff to adopt and focus on at the moment they enter the project, typically in the development planning stages.
It is imperative that when the goal-path direction is established and the integration of the development and planning follows the mission purpose and goals, the main core principles will not change direction.
This is the adopted rite of passage adopted by the by-laws or agreement of the entire team for worthwhile purpose; the ideas, creative insight and knowledge base building within each of us the solid foundational guiding paths and project completion we result with.
Within the core principles, there should be established trust, credibility & competency. The leader then can focus on training and skills sets which allow the autonomy of each team member within the project to excel, be the best they can be and complete their portion of the project.
