What is Strategic Change Momentum?
The Momentum for Strategic Change can be described
as the strength, force or energy gained by motion or through the development
of events that is necessary for the implementation of a strategy or of strategic
change.
Like physical momentum, organizational momentum has a size
and a direction. It can be created and maintained by showing leadership, focus,
commitment, persistence, and by employee involvement, effective actions, and
consistent communication. Also it may be necessary to adapt the organizational
Culture and to deal with the dark side of change: conflict, resistance, failure
and cynicism.
The momentum level of any change effort or strategy implementation
process fluctuates over time. At times it is high as people work energetically
and productively. At other times it is low. People are stalled or stopped,
feeling like they are making little or no progress.
