Why is digitization making slow progress (despite the pandemic as an accelerator)?
Matthias Bittrich, Business Consultant, Germany

Study shows many different causes and consequences.

The third global study of its kind, "Closing the Acceleration Gap: Toward Sustainable Digital Transformation," by the company "workday" once again examined this question.
In 2020, 36 percent of the 1,000 respondents were still convinced that they would generate strongly increasing sales via digital channels within three years; today, this figure is only a meager 13 percent.
The study notes the following:
- The focus of companies is changing from external channels to internal ones
- The actual is lagging behind the target everywhere
- The speed of change in organizations has been greatly reduced
- The "Digital Acceleration Gap" (gap between wishes and demands and reality) is widening
- Strategy replaces blind actionism
Several causes are cited for this:
- Too few employees have ideas for additional revenue sources
- Too few qualifications in data analytics, therefore too little data quality and thus only slow cultural change
- Catastrophic data availability for CFOs - only 7% can get a clear picture of their company based on numbers. If this is not a measuring mistake, it is alarming imho!
