How to Get Employment in Nigeria

Stand out from the crowd.

How to get employment in Nigeria?
The Nigeria population is over 150 Million and over 60% are youths. Getting a job immediately after service will help build self-confidence and improve the country’s economic value.
However, there’s a common misconception in Nigeria that there are no jobs, or getting a job is how connected you are in the society.

I slightly disagree with the latter (not entirely), this supports Cally Cussons' (2014) view instead of asking why, ask why not. In my mind, I believe that it’s all about the little efforts you make while in youth service, if you wish to get a job after youth service start thinking about the industry or sector that aligns with your career goals, think about ways you can “stand out from the crowd.
This supports the idea of Budha “The mind is everything, what you think is what you become".

You can use your monthly allowance to improve yourself. Ask me how? Research and register for online courses most of these courses are free create time to learn new things relating to your field of study and the kind of skills required for the job you will be applying for after service. Examples of online learning sites are (bedides 12manage of course): Udemy, Alison’s, Aiki Nigeria etc.
Also I have learnt that visiting online job sites such as Vconnect and Ng careers blog etc. Where you get career insights and updates delivered to your email as I am confident this will help corpers discover and explore opportunities around them. Also be proactive and use networking, attend career fairs prepare your CV and cover letter to hand out to employers or representatives of companies, this also suggests that visiting companies is a good approach this will give a better knowledge of the organizational structure and specifications.

I have also learned not to see “money” as a motivating factor, most job seekers are waiting till they get a well-paid job which sometimes might take longer than expected, in my opinion start with a challenging job which will help in your career advancement and experience level, as the latter is what employers are looking for.

Finally, knowing where you are, where you’re going and how to reach your destination, also the things to take while traveling (Cally Cussons, 2014).
