Carrot & Stick Approach is Obsolete!

Using Carrot & Stick Approach demotivates employees, killing their self pride, integrity and loyalty.

The Carrot & Stick Approach refers to a policy of offering a combination of rewards and punishment to induce behavior. It is named in reference to a cart driver dangling a carrot in front of a mule and holding a stick behind it. The mule would move towards the carrot because it wants the reward of food, while also moving away from the stick behind it, since it does not want the punishment of pain, thus drawing the cart.

Companies these days, at least some, still talk about Carrots & Sticks, and how rewards should work, the bad thing they still pride themselves bringing the subject up.
One thing is being forgotten! Using such obolete approach only demotivates individuals, killing their self pride, integrity and loyalty.
Businesses should really reconsider their strategies, communication style. Respecting employees intelligence will only assure that they value their people and consider them a part of the company success.
Listening to employees, involving them in the vision of the company, allowing them to take decisions creates the trust culture needed to have everyone on the winning side. And yes, applying the Carrot Stick approach is an insult by all means possible.

Always remember building your culture is the product of your strategy, now the decision is yours, your business depends on it.
