So many organizations presently have personnel at the top of the hierarchy who have only assumed their positions due to tenure and not due to their leadership abilities. With such a competitive environment in this global market, managers are expected to apply the blue ocean strategy and leave the red ocean in order to become a force to reckon with.
Gone are the days when companies could rely solely on the market share they are certain of due to brand loyalty, as consumers have become cognizant of their power and ability to drive the market.
The manner in which management conducts itself will set the tone of the organization. Ethical issues usually determine how the staff below management level will view management and therefore it is expected that management will consider themselves as role models. Quite often management becomes too complacent and relaxed in its daily activities, resulting in inactivity in many key areas of operations such as marketing and logistics. Failure to continue to market it's product and services in a lackluster economic environment will result in the organization becoming irrelevant and unknown, therefore it is imperative that management leads the charge to continue its marketing despite the down times. Also, not to market in areas already known and in some instances dominated, but to seek new and emerging markets to create their own niche. Having marketed extensively, it is imperative that demands can be filled as the whole idea of marketing is to increase demand, hence, organizing and planning logistically is imperative.
