Gifted employees: how to recognize and keep them in your organization
A.P. Nauta , Other, Netherlands

Recognize your gifted employees, give them work that suits them, autonomy and trust and talk about their needs and motivation.

Gifted employees are very valuable for your organization. Gifted people not only have a very high IQ (top 2%), but are described as:
Quick and clever thinkers, able to deal with complex matters. Autonomous, curious and passionate. Sensitive and emotionally rich individuals, living intensely. They enjoy being creative. (Kooijman-van Thiel, 2008)
These people are the innovators and the critics. But they are not always recognized and may have problems like bore-out, burn-out, conflicts. If a manager would recognize gifted employees, effort should be done, from both sides, to make a good fit between the employee and the work(environment).
This means: work that suits these employees, give them challenges, give them autonomy and trust. Try to communicate about their needs and motivation.
You will then get the best out of these employees and keep them in your organization which is also beneficial for you, your firm and all the employees.
