True Change comes from Within
Austin Parry, Coach, Australia

The only long lasting change comes from the choice to actually change not from imposed change.

Management has had a bad press when one goes back in history.
Managers were those that assisted in maintaining the status quo. They were given the responsibility to keep the institution level pegging.
I was part of paid Church structure for segments of my life. Management was maintain the status quo. Bishops major responsibility was to "defend the Faith". That now has come to mean, maintain the status quo.
One of the hardest things to do is to actually get people to step outside the, "maintenance" mode and be open to the realisation that there may be a better way.
Einstein was correct! The issues of the moment cannot be solved by the same thought that created them.
As we look at where we are now, we need to ask the question, "What do we need to do differently to get a better result," This is Lateral Thinking at its best. Leadership at its best.
There is no accepting that, "we can do no better than what we are doing now," Rather there is a strong belief that we can always improve, grow, allow ourselves to be open to future possibilities.
When the leadership that we mirror allows others to, be empowered, self assess, search for their perspective on our thought, put a different point of view, challenge our perspective, think for themselves, then we have opened the playing field to all comers.
There is no, "one way to do it", rather there is a process that allows others to change and grow from the process.
Change does happen, however it is the change that comes from the people. Change that is driven by those that it impacts on the most. Change that is so driven by the people that it's ownership is never in question.
This kind of change is truly a choice by those that it affects the most. However, it is not a change defined by the people out of security drive, no it is a change that comes from the people who actually see that things can be better and choose to make decisions that will bring this about.
This sort of change lasts because it comes from ownership of the changes by those that it affects. However, it is able to provide a more powerful result to management because it is not imposed change. It is rather involved participative change.
Truly the way that any enlightened, proactive organisation would want to grow.
Do you?
