Key words: Management competencies, leadership competencies, organization’s performance.
Abstract: If Management has long been considered long ago in terms of competencies, whereas Leadership is still mainly defined in the literature in terms of traits and behaviors. This conceptual article first aims at defining management and leadership characteristics, roles and competencies to clarify their difference and their complementarily. Then, a parallel is drawn with the transactional and transformational leadership theory to propose new measures. Also, a set of complementary management competencies is identified, and suggestions are made concerning their specific impact on organization’s performance, using the Balanced Score Card (human resources, processes, customer and finance outcomes).
