WHAT KIND OF MANAGEMENT ENVIRONMENT ARE WE REALLY CREATING?

![]() Management practices support values for a strong consumer society that conflict with deeper issues such as happiness and true quality of life. Are we.Since early stages of our life, we are being constantly influenced by the media, our family, our community and other sources of education, to search "financial growth" and to buy and have "goods" such as assets, cars, real state, clothing, trips and other items that supposedly demonstrate success, portrayed by the media as money, status and power. Words such as “happiness” are becoming scarce in the management speech. "Producing more with less" became a religion. Not to exceed targets is not a proper behavior. Ethics and values are somehow of a threat to many companies today. Great companies are caught dealing prices and practicing habits contrary to true consumer interest and the society as a whole. Bonuses are increasing and influence “short term” results, with negative impacts on the long term. Many companies prefer their executives to attend an important executive presentation, even if they have, at the same time, a son undergoing surgery, for example. Are we creating a proper and healthy business and management environment? Or are we - for money and power - selling our expertise and souls to the shareholders? Are we really balancing our decisions? Are we working effectively for a better society for our children? |
