Leadership Style Driven by Vision, Empathy, and Listening

Recently, leaders at Forbe CEO leadership conference discussed three leadership styles driven by vision, empathy, and Listening. The first leadership style “vision”, fits Helmut Panke, former chairman of German auto maker BMW. He took BMW from a mere “yeppy toy” to a giant auto making company that is equal to Mercedes. According to Panke, a leader must have a vision to be able to succeed. The second leadership style “empathy”, fits Admiral Bill Owens; he Serve as Commanding Officer of the USS Sam Houston and the USS City of Corpus Cristy. During operation desert storm, he served as commander of the sixth fleet. According to Admiral Owen, top Sub Commanders were successful because they showed empathy towards their sailors under their command. The third leadership style “listening”, is demonstrated by Walmart’s Chairman, Rob Walton. He said the job of leaders is to listen well to customers and critics, and this style of leadership sets the stage for Walmart which is currently a global retail giant. An important point to note is that the “Leadership style must fit the leader, and it must fit the organization”.
