The Influence of Intellectual Capital on Firm Performance through Innovation: An Investigation on Agricultural Insurance Fund of Iran

ABSTRACT
Firm performance is one of the continuing discussed topics in strategic and human resource management terms. Scholars stated that there are many factors to influence firm performance in competitive environment of business. Thus, firms need to offer high-quality products/services to added value at low cost. Therefore, many firms have responded to these competitive demands by being innovative in their practices and have shown enough flexibility to meet the expectations of their customers and also stakeholders. Besides, scholars have asserted that intellectual capital is a vital asset that helps organizations to create value in present economic syndrome and enables them to be innovative. However, the contemporary literature remains scant on the integration of innovation with intellectual capital to influence firm performance. Thus, this study intended to fill in this existing gap, through empirically investigation on mediating effect of innovation into impact of intellectual capital on firm performance. This study also is a comprehensive examination on intellectual capital component to relationship innovation and the both aspects of firm performance, financial and non-financial as main construct of the study. The scope of the survey was agricultural insurance sector in Iran. Data collected through questionnaire based on the total 294 active insurance companies. In data analysis process, correlation and multivariat regression methods were employed to disclose relationship between three constructs of the study via SPSS (Version 20). In this order, framework of the study has been tested and developed through CFA and path analysis methods according to SEM via utilizing AMOS, which engaged to goodness fit indices of the measurement models. The results of the study indicated that intellectual capital includes human, structural, relational, and spiritual capital influence the firms performance. Further, the findings have been confirmed existance of positive relationship between intellectual capital components and innovation in this scope. Furthermore, mediation effect of innovation between intellectual capital and firm performance is accepted, particularly on non-financial performance. While spiritual capital had the lowest impact than other on the firm performance.
