Quattro prospettive di allineamento

1. Esecuzione della Strategia. Questa prospettiva osserva la strategia di business come il driver sia delle scelte di design dell'organizzazione che della logica dell'infrastruttura IT (la classica visione gerarchica della gestione strategica). La Direzione Aziendale formula la strategia; la gestione di IT si limita ad implementare soltanto la strategia. [Freccia 1]

2. Potenziale Tecnologico. Anche questa prospettiva vede la strategia di business come il driver principale. Tuttavia richiede la formulazione della strategia di IT per supportare la strategia di business scelta e la specifica corrispondente dell'infrastruttura e dei processi di IT richiesti. La direzione aziendale dovrebbe fornire la vision tecnologica per articolare la logica e le scelte pertinenti strategia di IT che supportano al meglio la strategia di business scelta. Il ruolo dell'IT manager dovrebbe essere quello del technology architect. Progettare ed implementare efficientemente ed efficacemente l'infrastruttura IT richiesta, coerente con i componenti esterni della strategia di IT (scopo, competenze e governance). [Freccia 2]

3. Potenziale Competitivo. Questa prospettiva di allineamento concerne lo sfruttamento delle capacità emergenti di IT:

   • ha effetto sui nuovi prodotti e servizi (cioè lo scopo del business),
   • influenza gli attributi chiave della strategia (cioè le competenze distintive), così come
   • sviluppa nuove forme di relazioni (cioè la business governance).

   Diverso delle due prospettive precedenti, che consideravano la strategia di business come data (o come un vincolo per la trasformazione organizzativa), questa prospettiva permette la modifica della strategia di business attraverso le capacità emergenti di IT. Il ruolo specifico della direzione aziendale, nell'aiutare questa prospettiva ad aver successo, è quello del visionario del business che articola l'effetto sulla strategia di business delle competenze emergenti di IT, delle funzionalità e dei cambiamenti nei modelli di governance nel mercato dell'IT. Il ruolo del manager di IT è quello di fungere da catalizzatore. Identificare ed interpretare le tendenze nell'ambiente di IT. In tal modo egli assiste i business manager a capire le opportunità e le minacce potenziali da una prospettiva di IT. [Freccia 3]

4. Livello di Servizio. Questa prospettiva di allineamento si basa su come sviluppare un'organizzazione mondiale di IT, all'interno di un'organizzazione. In questa prospettiva, il ruolo della strategia di business è indiretto. Questa prospettiva è vista spesso come condizione necessaria, ma non sufficiente, per assicurarle un uso efficace delle risorse ed essere sensible alle crescenti e mutevoli domande del popolo degli utilizzatori finali. Il ruolo specifico della direzione aziendale per realizzare questa prospettiva è quello di prioritizzare. Decidere cioè come dovrebbero essere stanziate le risorse limitate, sia all'interno dell'organizzazione che nel mercato di IT (in termini di joint ventures, licensing, investimenti del capitale di rischio della minoranza, ecc.). Il ruolo dell'IT manager è quello della business leadership, con la mansione specifica di assicurare il successo del business interno attraverso le linee guida operative provenienti dalla direzione aziendale.
