US GAAP sind die allgemein anerkannten Bilanzierungsgrundsätze, die von Firmen verwendet werden, die in den USA ansässig sind oder an der Wall Street gelistet sind. US GAAP enthält ein massives Volumen an Standards, Interpretationen, Meinungen und Nachrichten und werden durch das FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board), dem Buchhaltungsberuf (AICPA) und der SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) entwickelt.

US GAAP ist eine Kombination von maßgebenden Standards durch Regelungsorganisationen und der geltenden Weisen des Durchführens von Buchhaltung.

US GAAP Standards sind zweifellos mit IAS gleichwertig. Jedoch werden sie ohne irgendeinen Input von außerhalb der USA entwickelt. US GAAP ist sehr ausführlich und reflektiert die strittige Umgebung in den USA, die immer mehr ausführliche Regelungen verlangt. US GAAP kann nicht von regelnder Intervention durch die SEC separiert werden.
