Peter Drucker - Målstyrning SMART Vad är Målstryning? Beskrivning

MBO bygger på att definitiera mål för varje anställd och därefter att jämföra och rikta deras prestationer mot målsättningar som har fastställts. Den syftar till att öka organisationens resultat genom att matcha organisatoriska mål med målsättningarna hos de anställda i organisationen. Idealiskt får alla anställda motta en kraftfull insyn för att kunna identifiera deras målsättningar, tidsscheman för när saker skall vara avslutade, etc.
MBO omfattar en fortlöpande övervakning av processer och att ge feedback för att uppnå målsättningarna.


Peter Drucker

Målstyrning (Management by Objectives MBO) skisserades först av Peter Drucker år 1954 i hans bok ”The practice of Management”. Enligt Drucker bör chefer undvika ”aktivitetsfällan”, att bli för djupt involverade i de vardagliga aktiviteterna att de glömmer deras huvudsakliga syfte eller målsättning. Ett av koncepten bakom MBO var att i stället för att bara några få toppchefer, så skulla alla chefer i ett företag delta i den strategiska planeringsprocessen, för att förbättra implementerbarheten av planen. Ett annat koncept för Målstyrning handlade om att chefer bör införa flera typer av prestationsystem som skapas för att hjälpa organisationen att fungera väl. Helt klart är att Målstyrning kan sålunda ses som en föregångare till Värdebaserad Styrning.


Principerna kring Målstyrning

  • Kaskadeffekt på de organisatoriska målen och målsättningar,

  • Specifika målsättningar för varje medlem,

  • Delaktighet i beslutsfattandet,

  • Uttalad tidsperiod, och

  • Prestationsutvärdering och erbjuda återkoppling.

Målstyrning (MBO) introducerade också SMART metoden för att kunna kontrollera giltigheten i målsättningarna, som bör vara ”SMART”:

  • Specifikt

  • Mätbart

  • Accepterade

  • Realistiskt, och

  • Tidsmässigt.

Under 90-talet satte Peter Drucker perspektiv på betydelsen av denna organisationsledningsmetod, då han sa: ”Det är just bara ytterligare ett verktyg. Det är inte den viktigaste boten för ledningsineffektivitet…, Målstyrning fungerar, om du känner till målsättningarna, 90% av tiden gör du inte det.”,
