Wat is Six Sigma? Beschrijving
Six Sigma is een kwaliteitsmanagementmethodologie die ondernemingen de hulpmiddelen biedt om de capaciteit van hun bedrijfsprocessen te verbeteren. Deze stijging van de prestatie en daling van de procesvariatie leidt tot vermindering van defecten en toename van winsten, werknemersmoreel en productkwaliteit. Het is een kwaliteitsmetings- en verbeteringsprogramma waarvan Mikel Harry en Motorola de pioniers waren. Het concentreert zich op de controle van een proces tot het punt van six sigma (standaarddeviaties) van een middellijn, of 3,4 tekorten per miljoen items. Het omvat het identificeren van factoren die kritiek zijn voor de kwaliteit zoals die door de klant worden bepaald. Het vermindert de procesvariatie en verbeteringscapaciteiten, het verhoogt de stabiliteit en het ontwerpt systemen om het six sigma doel te steunen.

Het Six Sigma model is een zeer gedisciplineerde aanpak die bedrijven kan helpen om zich te concentreren op het ontwikkelen en het leveren van vrijwel volmaakte producten en diensten. Het is gebaseerd op het statistische werk van Joseph Juran, een Amerikaanse pionier van Roemeense origine op het gebied van kwaliteitsmanagement. Het woord "Sigma" is een Grieks letterteken dat voor een
statistiekterm wordt gebruikt die meet hoe ver een bepaald proces van perfectie afwijkt (de standaarddeviatie). Als het sigma-getal hoger is, bent u dichter bij perfectie. Één sigma is niet erg goed; zes sigma wordt
gedefinieerd als slechts 3.4 tekorten per miljoen. Het centrale idee achter Six Sigma is dat als u kunt meten hoeveel "defecten" u in een proces hebt, u systematisch kunt uitzoeken hoe u hen kunt elimineren. Aldus kunt u bijna tot "zero defects" komen.
De Japanse oorsprong van Six Sigma kan nog steeds worden herkend aan het systeem van "banden" welke het gebruikt. Als u net begint met Six Sigma en u op een basisopleiding gaat, krijgt u een groene band. Iedereen die de verantwoordelijkheid heeft om een team van Six Sigma te leiden wordt een zwarte band genoemd. Tot slot is er een speciale elitegroep die Meester Zwarte Banden worden genoemd die de Zwarte banden controleren.
Vijf Stappen in Six Sigma. Proces
Typisch, kent een Six Sigma proces de volgende vijf stadia:
- Definitie. De eerste stap in ieder Six Sigma project is het verduidelijken van het probleem, en zijn werkingsgebied zodanig te versmallen dat meetbare doelstellingen kunnen worden bereikt binnen een paar maanden . Dan wordt een team samengesteld om het proces in detail te onderzoeken, verbeteringen te suggereren, en die aanbevelingen ten uitvoer te leggen. In de productiewereld, beginnen projectmanagers en hun sponsors typisch met het bepalen van wat een defect is, en stellen vervolgens een reeks doelstellingen op die ontworpen zijn om het voorkomen van dergelijke defecten te verminderen.
- Meting. In de tweede stap van een Six Sigma project, verzamelt het team gegevens en bereidt het een analyse voor op hoog niveau.
- Analyse. Zodra een proces in kaart is gebracht en gedocumenteerd, en de kwaliteit van de harde ondersteunende gegevens is geverifiëerd, kan het Six Sigma team met de analyse beginnen. De teamleden beginnen gewoonlijk met het identificeren van de manieren waarop mensen er niet in slagen om te handelen zoals nodig is, of door de manieren te identificeren waarop de mensen er niet in slagen om effectieve controle te waarborgen in elk stadium.
- Verbetering. Adviseer, beslis en voer de verbeteringen uit.
- Controle. In het laatste stadium van een Six Sigma project, creëert het team controles. Deze stellen het bedrijf in staat om de verbeteringen vol te houden en uit te breiden.
