الثقافات تحيطنا كلنا. الثقافات معقدة وواسعة الانتشار ومركزة عميقة.


رغم ذلك، طبقا لأدجرد شين ، نحن لا نستطيع فهم التعلم التنظيمي، التطوير وخطط التغيير، ما لم نعتبر الثقافة كمصدر أساسي من مقاومة التغيير.

علاوة على ذلك، إذا لم يكن المديرين واعيين بالثقافات المحيطة، فهذه الثقافات ستديرهم. الفهم الثقافي مرغوب لكل شخص، لكنه ضروري للقيادات إذا كانوا يقودوا.


بالمستويات الثلاثة من الثقافة، زود أدغارد سشين مساهمة مهمة لتعريف ما الثقافة التنظيمية في الحقيقة.


ماذا يكون الثلاثة مستويات للثقافة ؟ الوصف

إدجرد شين ثلاثة [لفلس وف كلتثر] يعيّن ثقافة نظاميّة

شين يقسم الثقافة التنظيمية إلى ثلاثة مستويات:

  1. اصطناعية. هذه "الصناعية" على السطح ، مثل السمات (مثل الملبس) والتي يمكن أن تعرف بسهولة، لكن صعبة الفهم.
  2. القيم المزدوجة. السمات الصناعية أسفلها "القيم المزدوجة" التى هى إستراتيجيات واعية وأهداف وفلسفات.
  3. الافتراضات البسيطة والقيم. إن الصميم، أو جوهر الثقافة ممثل بفروض وقيم بنية الأساسية، والتي هى صعبة للمعرفة لأن توجد بشكل كبير في مستوى غير واعي. رغم ذلك تقدم المفتاح الرئيسى لماذا الأشياء تحدث على نحو معين. وتشكل هذه الفروض البسيطة حول أبعاد أعمق من الوجود الإنساني مثل طبيعة البشر، والعلاقات والنشاط الإنساني والحقيقة والصدق.

في كتابه 1992 الكلاسيكي: الثقافة والقيادة التنظيمية ، يعرف شين الثقافة بمجموعة : "أنماط الافتراضات البسيطة المشتركة التى تعلمها المجموعة بينما تحل مشاكلها مع التكيف الخارجي والتكامل الداخلي، والتى تعمل بشكل جيد كافى لكي تعتبر صحيحة، ولتعليم الأعضاء الجدد كطريق صحيح للإدراك، للتفكير، والشعور بما يتعلق بتلك المشاكل ".


في 1996 نشر حديث لشين يعرف الثقافة التنظيمية على أنها : الفروض الضمنية الأساسية حول كيف يكون العالم وكيف يجب أن تكون مجموعة الناس المشاركة فيه والتي تقرر تصوراتهم، أفكارهم، مشاعرهم،، وسلوكهم العلني


فى 1992 شين يعترف بأن - حتى بالدراسة الجادة - نحن يمكن فقط أن نعطي تصريحات عن عناصر الثقافة. فنحن لا نستطيع توضيح الثقافة في مجموعه. : التكرار، التحليل المشابه للعلاقة العلاجية بين عالم نفساني ومريض.
