Die Kaizen Methode der ununterbrochenen zusätzlichen Verbesserungen ist ursprünglich ein japanisches Managementkonzept zur stufenweisen, ununterbrochenen (zusätzlichen) Änderung (Verbesserung).


Kaizen ist tatsächlich eine Philosophie der Lebensart. Sie nimmt an, dass jeder Aspekt unseres Lebens verdient, ständig verbessert zu werden. Die Kaizen-Philosophie ist die Grundlage vieler japanischen Managementkonzepte, wie: Gesamtqualitätskontrolle, Qualitätskontroll-Zirkel, kleine Gruppenaktivitäten, Arbeitgeber-Arbeitnehmer-Beziehungen.


Schlüsselelemente von Kaizen sind: Qualität, Bemühung, Miteinbeziehung aller Angestellten, Bereitwilligkeit zur Änderung und Kommunikation.


Japanische Firmen unterscheiden zwischen: Innovation, eine radikale Form der Änderung und Kaizen, eine kontinuierliche Form der Änderung. Kaizen bedeutet buchstäblich: ändern Sie (Kai) um gut zu werden (Zen).


Die fünf fundamentalen Elemente von Kaizen

  1. Teamwork.
  2. Persönliche Disziplin.
  3. Verbesserte Arbeitsmoral.
  4. Qualitätszirkel.
  5. Verbesserungsvorschläge.

Aus diesem Fundament heraus entstehen drei Schlüsselfaktoren in Kaizen

  • Beseitigung des Ausschusses (Muda) und der Unwirtschaftlichkeit.
  • Das Kaizen fünf-S-Rahmenwerk für gute Haushaltsführung.
  •       1. Seiri - Sauberkeit
  •       2. Seiton - Ordnung
  •       3. Seiso - Reinlichkeit
  •       4. Seiketsu - standardisierte Reinigung
  •       5. Shitsuke - Disziplin
  • Normierung.

Wann sollte die Kaizen-Philosophie angewendet werden? Obgleich es schwierig ist generischen Rat zu geben, ist es klar, dass es gut in die stufenweisen, zusätzlichen Änderungsituationen paßt, die langfristige Änderung erforden und in Kollektivkulturen. Individuellere Kulturen, die mehr auf kurzfristigen Erfolg gerichtet sind, sind häufig zuträglicher für Konzepte wie Business Process Reengineering-Ansatz.


Kaizen verglichen mit Business Process Reengineering

Wenn Kaizen mit der BPR-Methode verglichen wird, ist es klar, dass die Kaizen-Philosophie menschenorientierter und einfacher einzuführen ist, aber langfristige Disziplin erfordert und nur eine langsame Geschwindigkeit der Änderung liefert. Der Business Process Reengineering-Ansatz ist einerseits härter, technologieorientiert und ermöglicht radikale Änderung, aber er erfordert beträchtliche Änderungsmanagementfähigkeiten.
