1987年，Michael Hammer和Glenn Mangurian共同发表了一篇文章，名为《通讯技术的变革价值》（The Changing Value of Communication Technology），在这篇文章里，他们介绍了用以衡量信息技术价值的影响/价值框架图。

影响/价值框架图的纵轴

• 时间（Time）： 尤其表现在时间压缩上。
• 距离（Distance）： 尤其表现在克服地域局限上。
• 关系（Relationships）： 有时组织关系能够被重新定义。

影响/价值框架图的横轴

• 效率（Efficiency），即“正确地”做事，如提高产能。
• 效能（Effectiveness），即做“正确的”事，如执行好的管理。
• 创新（Innovation），即“创新性”做事，如改善产品与服务。
