Sammanfattning

Kulturdimensioner Enligt Geert Hofstede, så finns det inte någon sådant som en universell managementmetod eller managementteori som är giltig över hela världen. Även uttrycket ”management” har olika ursprung och betydelse ute i världen. Management är inte ett fenomen som kan isoleras från andra processer som äger rum i samhället. Den interagerar med vad som händer i familjen, på skolan, i politik och regering. Den relateras självfallet också till religionen och tilltron på vetenskapen.


De fem Kulturdimensioner av Hofstede

Den Kulturdimensionermodellen av Geert Hofstede är ett ramverk som beskriver fem sorters (dimensioner) av skillnader/i värdeperspektiven mellan nationella kulturer:

  • Maktdistans. Graden av ojämlikhet bland människor som befolkningen i ett land betraktar som normal.

  • Individualism kontra kollektivism. I den utsträckning som människor känner att de förväntas att ta omsorg för eller att man bry sig om dem, deras familjer eller organisationer som de tillhör.

  • Maskulinitet kontra femininitet. I den utsträckning som en kultur är den som bidrar till dominansen, bestämdheten och förvärvet av saker. Kontra den kultur som mer befrämjar personalen, känslor och av livskvalitet.

  • Osäkerhetsundvikande. I vilken grad som människor i ett land föredrar strukturerad över ostrukturerade situationer.

  • Långsiktig kontra kortsiktig orientering. Långsiktigt: värden som orienteras in mot framtiden, som tillexempel sparande och uthållighet. Kortsiktigt: värderingar som orienteras in mot det förflutna och nuläget, såsom respekt för tradition och att uppfylla sociala förpliktaganden.

För att förstå managementkulturen i ett land bör man ha både kunskap och inlevelse för hela den lokala miljön. Emellertid resultatet från den unika statistiska undersökningen, som Hofstede genomförde, bör göra alla medvetna om att människor i andra länder tänker, känner och agerar mycket olikt från dig själv, även om de konfronterats med grundläggande problem i samhället. Vem som helst som berörs av detta inom management eller Strategi, bör klokt instrueras om att ständigt minnas de lärdomar man får i Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions/Kulturella Dimensions teorin. Människor har en tendens att missta sig att tänka och känna samt att agera utifrån deras egna erfarenheter, speciellt när de fungerar internationellt.
