Resumo

História de Emotional Intelligence

Quando os psicólogos começaram a escrever e pensar sobre a inteligência, focalizaram inicialmente em aspectos cognitive, tais como a memória e o problem-solving. Entretanto, alguns investigadores reconheceram a importância de aspectos non-cognitive cedo sobre:

  • Robert Thorndike estava escrevendo sobre a inteligência social em 1937,

  • David Wechsler definiu a inteligência como a capacidade agregada ou global do indivíduo agir purposefully, pensar racional, e tratar eficazmente de suas circunstâncias (Wechsler, 1958, P. 7). Já em 1940 Wechsler consultou a non-intellective as well as os elementos intellective (Wechsler, 1940), por que significou fatores affective, pessoais, e sociais. Além disso, já em 1943 Wechsler propunha que as abilidades non-intellective são essenciais para predizer abilidade de suceder na vida.

  • Howard Gardner começou a escrever sobre a inteligência múltipla em 1983. Propôs que o intrapersonal e as inteligências interpersonal e o tipo de inteligência (medida tipicamente pelo IQ e por testes relacionados) são ingualmente importantes.

  • Inteligência emocional do inventou o termo de Salovey e de Mayer realmente em 1990. Descreveram a inteligência emocional como “um formulário da inteligência social que envolve a abilidade de monitorar para possuir e outra sentimentos e emoções, para discriminar entre elas, e para usar esta informação guiar pensar e ação umas” (Salovey & Mayer, 1990). Salovey e Mayer inicíam também um programa de pesquisa pretendido desenvolver medidas válidas da inteligência emocional e explorar seu significado.

Em fazer a pesquisa para seu primeiro livro, Daniel Goleman tornou-se ciente do trabalho de Salovey e de Mayers nos 1990s adiantados. Sendo treinado como um psicólogo em Harvard, onde trabalhou com David McClelland, Goleman escreveu o bestseller popular “Emotional Intelligence” (1995), em que ofereceu a primeira “prova” que os fatores emocionais e sociais são importantes.


Cinco domínios de Emotional Intelligence

Goleman em 1995 concorda com os cinco domínios principais de Salovey de Emotional Intelligence (P. 43)

  • Sabendo one emoções. Self-awareness, reconhecendo um sentimento quando acontecer.

  • Emoções controlando. A abilidade de segurar sentimentos assim que são apropriados.

  • Motivating oneself. Emoções Marshalling no serviço de um objetivo.

  • Reconhecendo emoções em outras. Empathy, consciência social.

  • Segurando relacionamentos. Habilidade em emoções controlando em outras.

Quatro domínios de Emotional Intelligence

Mais recentemente, Goleman favorece somente quatro domínios do EI. Os 4 domínios têm 19 categorias, como descritas em seu 2002 livro “Primal Leadership”. 2 categorias extra foram adicionadas por Hay Group:

  • Self-awareness (Self-Awareness emocional. Confiança exata do Self-Assessment e de Self)

  • Self-gerência (Self-Control emocional. Transparência (Trustworthiness). Adaptability. Orientação da realização. Iniciativa. Optimism. Conscientiousness)

  • Consciência social (Empathy. Consciência Organizational. Preste serviços de manutenção à orientação)

  • Gerência do relacionamento (Inspirational Leadership. Influência. Desenvolvendo outro. Mude o catalizador. Gerência do conflito. Edifício Bonds. Teamwork e colaboração. Uma comunicação)

Uma coisa importante a compreender é que - de acordo com Goleman - estas competência EI não são talents innate. São abilidades aprendidas.


IQ ou EI?

De acordo com alguns cientistas, o IQ por se não é um predictor muito bom do performance de trabalho. Hunter e Hunter (1984) estimaram que no melhor dos casos o IQ esclarece aproximadamente 25 por cento da variação. Sternberg (1996) indicou que os estudos variam e que 10 por cento podem ser uma estimativa mais realística. Em alguns estudos, o IQ esclarece tão pouco quanto 4 por cento da variação. Em uma meta-análise recente que examina a correlação e a validez predictive do EI quando comparada ao IQ ou à abilidade mental geral, Camionete Rooy e Viswesvaran (2004) encontraram o IQ para ser um predictor melhor do trabalho e do performance académico do que o EI. Entretanto, quando vem à pergunta de se uma pessoa se transformará da “um performer estrela” (nos dez por cento superiores, porém tal performance é avaliado apropriadamente) dentro desse papel, ou seja um líder proeminente, IQ pode ser um predictor mais menos poderoso do que a inteligência emocional (Goleman 1998, 2001, 2002).


IQ e EI: tipos puros

De acordo com Goleman, o IQ e o EI não devem ser considerados como competência com um sentido oposto. São competência rather separadas. Os povos com um IQ elevado mas baixo EI (ou o oposto) são, apesar dos stereotypes, relativamente raros. Há uma correlação entre o IQ e os alguns aspectos do EI. Os stereotypes (tipos puros) são:

  • Elevado-IQ (puro) macho. Typified - nenhuma surpresa - por uma escala larga do interesse e de abilidades intelectuais. É ambicioso e produtivo. Predictable e dogged. E untroubled por interesses sobre himself. Tende também a ser crítico e condescending. Fastidious e inibido. Inquieto com sexuality e experiência sensual. Unexpressive e destacado. E emocionalmente bland e frio.

  • Macho Elevado-EI (puro). Poised social. Que parte e cheerful. Nao prone ao fearfulness ou ao rumination preocupado. Tem uma capacidade notável para a dedicação aos povos ou às causas, para fazer exame da responsabilidade, e para ter um outlook ético. É sympathetic e importando-se em seus relacionamentos. Sua vida emocional é rica, mas apropria. É confortável com himself, outro, e o universo que social vive dentro.

  • Elevado-IQ (puro) fêmea. Tem a confiança intelectual prevista. É fluent em expressar seus pensamentos. Avalia matérias intelectuais. E tem uma escala larga de interesses intelectuais e aesthetic. Tende a ser introspectiva. Prone à ansiedade, ao rumination, e à culpa. E hesitates expressar abertamente sua raiva.

  • Fêmea Elevado-EI (pura). Tende a ser assertive e expressa seus sentimentos diretamente. E sente positivo sobre herself. A vida prende o meaning para ela. É que parte e gregarious. E expressa seus sentimentos apropriadamente. Adapta-se bem ao stress. Seu poise social deixa-a fàcilmente alcançar para fora aos povos novos. É confortável bastante com herself ser playful, espontânea, e abrir à experiência sensual. Sente raramente culpada, ou afunda-se no rumination.

Emotional Intelligence avaliando e de medição

Instrumentos usados medindo Emotional Intelligence

  • EQ-I (Bar-On, 1997): um instrumento do self-relatório para avaliar aquelas qualidades pessoais que permitiram alguns povos de possuir o bem estar emocional melhor do que outro.

  • Escala Multifactor de Emotional Intelligence (Mayer, Caruso, & Salovey, 1998):  um teste da abilidade onde o teste-taker executa uma série das tarefas que são projetadas avaliar a abilidade das pessoas de perceber, para identificar, compreender, e trabalhar com emoção.

  • Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI) (Goleman, 1998):  um instrumento de 360 graus, onde os povos avalíam os indivíduos dentro de uma organização (relatórios individuais do gabarito). Ou a organização ao todo (exames oficiais dos livros contábeis da força de trabalho). Estes exames oficiais dos livros contábeis podem fornecer um perfil organizational para qualquer grupo de tamanho dentro da companhia. Emotional Competence Inventory trabalha com as competência de 19/21 descritas acima (veja sob quatro domínios do EI).
