부채 비율 (Debt to Equity Ratio)

부채 비율은 기업의 지불능력을 측정하고 자본구조를 파악하기위해 사용된다. 부채 비율은 소유하고 있는 것과 빚을 지고 있는 것을 비교함으로써 기업이 얼마만큼 차입자본을 이용하는지를 나타낸다. 다시 말하면, 기업이 자금을 빌리고 되갚을 수 있는 능력을 측정하는 것이다.

채권자와 투자자의 부채비율의 활용.

채권자와 투자자들은 부채비율을 면밀히 주시하고 있다. 왜냐하면 부채비율은 기업이 자본금 사용보다는 차입에 의한 운영을 하는 정도를 알려주기 때문이다. 은행과 같은 채권자들은 기업의 부채비율이 지나치게 높을 경우 대출금의 리스크가 크고 상환받지 못할 수 있기 때문에 이러한 비율에 특히 민감하다. 이러한 리스크에 대한 은행의 가능한 대응조치로, 제한된 계약을 통해서 부채상환에 초과된 현금을 부채상환에 사용하도록 하는 것이다. 현금의 사용용도를 제한하는 것은 매우 일반적인 것이며, 또한 투자자들이 기업에 좀 더 많은 자본을 투자하게 하기 위해서도 필요한 것이다.

부채비율의 계산

부채비율 공식은 매우 간단하다 :

총부채를 총자본으로 나눈다. 백분율로 표시하기 위해서 100을 곱한다.

부채에는 모든 운영, 자본리스(capital lease) 지급도 포함해야 한다.

때때로 장기부채 자본구조를 파악하기 위해서 분자에 장기부채만 포함시키기도 한다.

부채비율 벤치마킹

부채비율을 동일산업내 다른 기업과 비교하면 유용하다. 수년간의 부채비율을 활용할 것을 추천하며, 추가적으로 지불기일에 따라서 기업의 지불능력에 주요한 차이를 보일 수 있기 때문에 지불기일이 언제인지를 고려하는 것을 추천한다.
