Samenvatting

Natuurlijk hoopt geen enkel bedrijf  "situaties onder ogen te moeten zien die een significante bedrijfsverstoring veroorzaken gepaard gaande met veel publiciteit in de media" (crisis). De openbare kritiek welke een resultaat is van deze mediaaandacht beÔnvloedt vaak de normale operaties van het bedrijf en kan een (negatieve) financiŽle, politieke, wettelijke- en bestuursinvloed hebben. Aanzienlijke waardevernietiging moet worden gevreesd, vooral wanneer de crisis niet goed wordt behandeld in de perceptie van de media / publieke opinie. Crisismanagement behandelt het geven van de juiste crisisreactie (preventief, structureel en ad hoc).


Sommige generieke hulp en aanwijzingen over crisismanagement

  1. Bereid calamiteitplannen voor (zodat het crisismanagement team en leden op zeer korte termijn kunnen worden gevormd, het repeteren van van diverse soorten crisissen)

  2. Kondig onmiddellijk en duidelijk intern aan dat de enige personen die over de crisis mogen spreken naar de buitenwereld, de leden van het crisisteam zijn)

  3. Handel snel (de eerste uren nadat de crisis uitbreekt zijn uiterst belangrijk, omdat de media vaak doorbouwt op de informatie in de eerste uren)

  4. Maak gebruik van crisis management consultants (advies met de objectiviteit van PR adviseurs is belangrijk, gebruik de corporate imago deskundigheid van specialisten)

  5. Geef nauwkeurige en correcte informatie (onthoud dat het proberen om informatie te manipuleren ernstige gevolgen zal hebben, als het wordt ontdek, ook intern!)

  6. Wanneer u besluit over acties, overweeg dan niet alleen de verliezen op de korte termijn, maar focus ook op de gevolgen op lange termijn.

Managers op alle niveaus van de organisatie worden aangesteld om crisissen te managen en doen dit vaak op een dagelijkse basis. Hun vaardigheden worden echt getest wanneer zij significante crisissen moeten managen die het potentieel hebben om de waardecreatie proces van de organisatie, de inkomensbronnen, de bedrijfskosten, de aandeelprijs, de concurrentiepositie en de normale zaken te onderbreken. Het meest efficiŽnte crisismanagement is aan de orde als potentiŽle crisissen snel worden ontdekt en behandeld - al voordat zij de bedrijfsvoering van de organisatie kunnen beÔnvloeden. In die gevallen komen zij nooit onder de aandacht van belangrijkste stakeholders van de organisatie of van het grote publiek via de media.


Het creŽeren van een Business Calamiteiten Plan

In gevallen waar de crisis al is uitgebroken, of het onvermijdelijk is dat de crisis belangrijke stakeholders van de organisatie zal beÔnvloeden, is een bedrijfscontinuÔteitsplan nuttig om de verstoring en de schade te minimaliseren. Het ontwikkelen van zo'n plan kan een moeilijke taak lijken, maar in werkelijkheid is het een eenvoudig te begrijpen document. Het omvat het identificeren van dŪe functies en processen welke kritisch zijn voor het bedrijf, en vervolgens de operationele en communicatie crisisplannen te ontwerpen om met de potentiŽle mislukking van ťťn of meer van hen om te gaan, en met hoe belangrijkste stakeholders zullen reageren wanneer zij dit te weten komen. Een belangrijk element dat soms over het hoofd wordt overzien is het testen van het Business ContinuÔteits Plan.
Bedrijven met bedrijfscontinuÔteitsplannen zullen beter bij machte zijn om het bedrijfseffect en de financiŽle schade te minimaliseren. Bovendien zouden managers kunnen merken dat het proces om deze plannen te ontwikkelen, ook een indirect voordeel heeft. Hun organisaties zijn gevoeliger voor mogelijke crisissituaties die het bedrijf zou kunnen verstoren, en de bedrijfskosten, winst en groei kunnen beÔnvloeden. Dientengevolge reageren hun managers sneller en effectiever om deze af te wenden.
