Évidemment, n'importe quelle entreprise espère ne pas avoir à faire face à des « situations causant une rupture significative de l'activité activant une large couverture médiatique » (crise). L'attention du public qui est le résultat de cette couverture médiatique souvent affecte l'exploitation normale de l'entreprise et peut avoir un impact (négatif) financier, politique, légal et gouvernemental. La destruction substantielle de valeur doit être crainte, particulièrement quand la crise n'est pas bien traitée dans la perception des médias / de l'opinion publique. La gestion de crise traite de la bonne réponse à donner à la crise (avec précaution, structurée et ad-hoc).
Quelques aide et conseils génériques sur la gestion de crise

Préparez les plans d'urgence à l'avance (l'équipe de direction et les membres de la cellule de crise peuvent être formés à très court terme, à la préparation des crises de diverses sortes)

Annoncez immédiatement et clairement en interne que les seules personnes à parler au sujet de la crise au monde extérieur sont les membres d'équipe de crise)

Réagissez rapidement (les premières heures après le démarrage de la crise sont extrêmement importantes, parce que les médias construisent souvent sur l'information des premières heures)

Employez des consultants en gestion de crise (les conseils objectifs de consultants en matière de R.P. est important, utilisez la réputation d'expertise de la société de spécialistes)

Fournissez une information précise et correcte (rappelez-vous que les tentatives de manipulation de l'information provoqueront un sérieux retour de flamme si on les découvrent, également en interne !)

En décidant des actions à mener, considérez non seulement les pertes à court terme, mais concentrez vous également sur les effets à long terme.
Les cadres à tous les niveaux de l'organisation sont sollicités pour gérer les crises et souvent le font quotidiennement. Leurs qualifications sont vraiment testées quand elles doivent gérer des crises significatives qui ont le potentiel de perturber le processus de création de valeur de l'organisation, les sources de revenus, les charges d'exploitation, le cours de l'action, la position concurrentielle et l'activité courante. La gestion de crise la plus efficace se produit quand les crises potentielles sont détectées et traitées rapidement - avant qu'elles ne puissent affecter l'activité de l'organisation. Dans ces entités elles ne viennent jamais à l'attention des partenaires principaux de l'organisation ou du grand public par l'intermédiaire des nouvelles des médias.
Créer un plan de continuité des activités
Dans les entités où la crise a déjà éclaté ou inévitable, la crise affectera les partenaires principaux de l'entreprise, un plan de continuité des activités est utile pour réduire au minimum la rupture et les dégâts. Développer un tel plan peut sembler une lourde charge, mais dans la réalité c'est un document de bon sens. Il implique d'identifier les fonctions et processus qui sont critiques à l'activité, ensuite de concevoir les plans d'urgence opérationnels et de communications pour traiter les défauts potentiels d'un ou plusieurs d'entre eux et comment les partenaires principaux réagiront quand ils le découvriront. Un élément important qui est parfois négligé est de tester le plan de continuité d'activités. Les entreprises avec des plans de continuité d'activités seront dans une meilleure position pour réduire au minimum l'impact sur les activités et les dégâts financiers. En plus de cela, les cadres dirigeants peuvent constater que le processus de développement de ces plans a également un bénéfice indirect. Leurs organisations sont plus sensibles aux situations possibles de crise qui pourraient perturber l'activité et affecter les coûts d'exploitation, la rentabilité et la croissance globale. En conséquence leurs dirigeants répondent plus rapidement et efficacement pour les supprimer à la source.
