Resumen

Obviamente, cualquier corporación espera no tener que hacer frente a “situaciones que causen una importante interrupción de las operaciones del negocio, que provoquen una  extensa cobertura de los medios de comunicación masivos” (crisis). El escrutinio público que se da como resultado de esta cobertura de medios, afecta las operaciones normales de la compañía, y puede a menudo tener impacto (negativo) en el campo financiero, político, legal y gubernamental. La destrucción substancial de valor debe ser temida, especialmente, cuando la crisis no se maneja ante la opinión de los medios/de la opinión pública. La gestión de la crisis se ocupa de dar una respuesta correcta ante la crisis (preventiva estructural y ad hoc).


Alguna ayuda y consejos genéricos en la gestión de crisis

  1. Prepare los planes de contingencia por adelantado (el equipo y los miembros de la gestión de crisis pueden ser formados con poco aviso, ensayo de crisis de varias clases)

  2. Anuncie a nivel interno de forma inmediata y clara que las únicas personas autorizadas para hablar sobre la crisis al mundo exterior, son los miembros del equipo de crisis)

  3. Muévase rápidamente (las primeras horas después de que la crisis explotó son extremadamente importantes, porque los medios periodisticos a menudo desarrollan la estructura de su información basados en lo que pasa en las primeras horas)

  4. Utilice a consultores en administración de crisis (el consejo objetividad de los consultores es importante, utilize a los especialistas en imagen corporativa)

  5. Dé la información exacta y correcta (recuerde que tratar de manipular la información lo perjudicará seriamente si se descubre, este efecto también se da internamente!)

  6. Al decidir sobre las acciones a tomar, considere no sólo las pérdidas a corto plazo, sino que además céntrese en los efectos de largo plazo.

Los ejecutivos de todos los niveles de la organización están empleados para manejar crisis y a menudo lo hace diariamente. Sus habilidades realmente se prueban cuando tienen que manejar las crisis importantes que tienen el potencial de interrumpir el proceso de la creación del valor de la organización, las fuentes de la renta, los gastos de explotación, el precio común, la competitividad y el negocio en curso. La gestión más eficaz de crisis se da cuando se detectan crisis potenciales y se tratan rápidamente - antes de que puedan afectar el negocio de la organización. En esta instancia nunca llaman la atención de los stakeholders dominantes o del público en general, vía los medios de noticias.


Creación de un plan de continuidad del negocio

En los casos donde la crisis ha entrado en erupción ya, o ella es inevitable la crisis afectará a stakeholderes dominantes de la organización, un plan de la continuidad del negocio es provechoso disminuir la interrupción y el daño. Desarrollar tal plan puede parecerse como una tarea desalentadora, pero en actualidad es un documento de sentido común. Implica identificar las funciones y procesos que son críticos para el negocio, luego diseñar los planes operativos y de comunicaciones de contingencia en caso de la potencial fallal de uno o más de ellos, y cómo los stakeholders dominantes reaccionarán cuando lo descubran. Un elemento importante que a veces se pasa por alto es probar el plan de continuidad del negocio.
Las corporaciones con planes de continuidad del negocio estarán en una mejor posición para disminuir el impacto de la crisis en el negocio y en los indicadores financieros. Encima de ésto, los ejecutivos pueden encontrar que el proceso de desarrollar estos planes también tiene una ventaja indirecta. Sus organizaciones son más sensibles a las posible situaciones de crisis que podrían interrumpir el negocio y afectar sus gastos operativos, beneficios y crecimiento en general. Consecuentemente, sus gerentes responden más rápida y eficazmente a controlarlas.
