وصفت طريقة اعادة هندسة عملية الاعمال لهامر و تشامبى ، كإعادة النظر الأساسيّة وإعادة التصميم الجذرى لعمليات اداء المنظمّة ، لكى يحقّق تحسينات صارمة للاداء الحالي في التكلفة ، الخدمات والسرعة

والافضل من تنظيّم الشركة لتكون تخصصات وظيفيّة مثل الإنتاج ، المحاسبة ، التسويق ، الخ. ، و النظر في المهام التى انجزت ، يوصي هامر و تشامبى بان ننظر في العمليات المتكاملة. من اكتساب الخامات ، نحو الإنتاج ، نحو التسويق والتوزيع. ان احدا ما سيعيد بناء الشركة نحو سلسلة من العمليات.

كانت المقترحات الرئيسيّة لاعادة الهندسة لمايكل هامر وجيمس تشامبى. بسلسلة من كتب اعادة هندسة المؤسسة ، ادارة اعادة الهندسة ، والجدول ، فيدعى الكثيرين ان الوقت الطويل بدّد ، و ذلك عند مرورّ المهام من الادارة الواحدة للآخرى. يدّعون بانه من الأكثر فعّالية أن تعيّن الفريق الذي ينجز كل المهام في العملية.

منهج الخمس خطوات لنموذج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال :

يصف دافنبورت فى 1992 منهج الخمس خطوات لنموذج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال :

1. طوّر رؤية العمل وعملية اداء الاهداف : ان طريقة اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال تقاد من رؤية الاعمال التى تتضمّن أهداف خاصّة مثل خفض التكلفة ، خفض الوقت ، تحسين جودة الإنتاج .
2. حدد عمليات اداء العمل التى يجب اعادة تصميمها: تستخدم معظم الشركات منهج التاثير المرتفع الذى يركز على العمليات الاكثر اهميّة أو التى تتعارض بشدة مع رؤية العمل و بغرض تحسينها . تستخدم ارقام أقل من الشركات المنهج المستنفد الذى يمكنه تحديد العمليات الخاصة بالاداء فى المنظمة ، ثم ترتيب هذه العمليات لتحديد الاولى و الاهم.
3. افهم وقس العمليات الموجودة: أن تفادى تكراّر الاخطاء القديمة وتوفر قاعدةّ للتحسينات المستقبلية. قارن : [سكينتيفيك منجمنت]
4. حدد روافع تكنولوجيا المعلومات : المعرفة الخاصة بتكنولوجيا المعلومات يمكن و يجب ان تؤثر على عملية اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال. .
5. صمم وابنى النموذج الاصلى للعملية الجديدة: التصميم الحقيقي يجب تمثيله بنهاية عملية اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال. بالأحرى ، يجب تمثيله بالنموذج الاصلى ، مع التكرار المتعاقب. كما ان الاستعانة بالنموذج الاصلى يوفق منهج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال مع تسليم النتائج السريعة ، والتداخل مع ارضاء العملاء.

كخطوة إضافيّة سادسة من طريقة اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال ، تجد أحيانا : ليتكيّف الهيكل التنظيمى ، ونموذج الحكم ، نحو هذه العملية الاوّليّة المصمّمة حديثا .

الظروف العامة التى تؤثر عما إذا كانت اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال ينصح باتباعه

بالرغم من صعوبة اعطاء نصيحة عمومية حول هذا ، فبعض العوامل يمكن اعتبارها كما يلى:

• هل تتمّ المنافسة بوضوح للشركة ؟ قارن : الادارة التحولية Turnaround Management
• هل ستكون هناك نزاعات كثيرة في التنظيم ؟
• هل سيكون هناك تكرار عالى جدّا للاجتماعات ؟
• الإستعمال المفرّط من الاتصالات الغير هيكلية ؟ مذكرات ، رسائل الكترونية ، الخ
• هل يمكن أن يعتبر منهج أكثر استمرارية للتدرج ، تحسين التطورات ؟ انظر الى: كيزن.

نقد منهج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال

لقد اكتسب منهج اعادة الهندسة سمعة سيئة لأنّ بعض المشاريع قد تعطلت بشكل ملحوظ. بالرغم من التطورات المحيطة بمقدمة اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال ، وجزئيّا بسبب حقيقة مؤلفى اعادة هندسة المؤسسة ، حيث انهم يقومون بشراء و بشكل تقريريّ ارقام ضخمة من الاصدارات الأعلى و الأفضل من المبيعات ، لكن الطريقة لم تلقّى ولم تتعايش مع توقعاتهم. ويبدو ان الاسباب الاساسية هىّ:

• تفترض اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال أنّ العامل الذى يحدّد اداءة المنظمة هو عدم كفاءة عمليات التشغيل. وهذا قد بكون او لا بكون دائما صحيخّ. كما لا يوفر منهج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال اى وسيلة للتصديق على هذا الافتراض.
• تفترض اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال الحاجة لبدأعملية تحسين الاداء مع سجل اعمال نظيف، اى يتغاضى تماما الوضع الراهن .
• لا يزوّد [ببر] طريق فعالة أن ركّز على التحسين جهود على التنظيم إكراهات. © بما أنّ يتمّ ب [غلدرتّ] في النظرية الإكراهات).
• أحيانا ، أو ربّما غالبا لحدّ كبير  ، فالتغير التدريجيّ و المتزايد مثل كيزن  قد يكون منهج افضل. .
• اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال لها تحيز ثقافى نحو الطريقة الأمريكيّة من التفكّر. انظر الى: الابعاد الثقافيّة

مقارنة كيزن مع اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال

عندما قورن منهج كيزن مع طريقة اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال وجد ان فلسفة كيزن تتوجه اكثر نحو الناس ، وأكثر سهولة بالتطبيّق ، الا أنهاّ تتطلّب إنضباط طويل الأجل وتوفر خطوات صغيرة للتغيير. من ناحية اخرى فمنهج اعادة هندسة اداء الاعمال اكثر صعوبة ، فهو موجه نحو التكنولوجيا ، ويمكّن من التغير الجذرى الا أنّه يتتطلّب تغيرات هامة بالمهارات الادارية .
