Accreditation in Microfinance / Financial Inclusion
Dr Can Veldet, Germany
Has anyone established a MF or FI platform to help poor communities? I am looking to be part of such organisation. In Germany we have ways of getting accredited but it is quite long and bureaucratic. Any creative idea how to go fast in a legal way and serve the objective? Thx for any reaction.

Hi Can, we have found that the best way of tackling poverty in deprived communities is a three-pronged approach:
1. We promote the use of credit unions as an alternative to less attractive forms of credit (for example, unlicensed lenders),
2. We promote low-cost home contents insurance, and
3. We encourage individuals to consider cheaper fuel (ie gas and electricity - this can have a significant impact on a low-income household).
While this is usually done in a structured manner, the principle is easily transferred and can be tailored to suit the needs of an individual or community (or indeed, a country!).
