Organisational Memory Blocks Innovation

🔥NEW I have found that memory is always the worst deterrent for accepting new challenges - for welcoming new recruits, new ideas.
Memory is good only for history writers - in an ever changing market environment it is good only for old timers to talk about the past.

Organizational Memory is a Wealth of Information for Countries and Companies

On the other hand, without any organizational memory, companies and even countries suffer from Alzheimer's disease.
They then lose their ability to properly conduct development research (improving step by step based on previous results). Also existing rights, obligations and responsibilities are lost.

Organisational Memory Both Supports and Hinders Innovation

On the one hand, it is necessary to be able to remember, find and share previous experiences in order to benefit from them as an organization. In my view, this certainly also applies to experiences in the field of innovation.
On the other hand, an overemphasis on organizational memory can complicate learning and innovation in an organization, causing rigidity and blindness. This danger is especially lurking when major changes are taking place within or outside the organization.
It is an important area of tension that knowledge managers, innovation specialists and top managers must deal with carefully.
