Value Stream Mapping in a job shop
I am currently working in a company where I have been told to implement VSM. But the problem is that its manufacturing activities are like a job shop and there is no repeatability. Is VSM possible in such environment?

VSM in a Shop
I am sure it is possible, no doubts. Waste can be found and eliminated everywhere. Read once again what is VSM and try it :)

VSM in a Job Shop
I implemented VSM in a job shop environment. I broadly grouped products based on common processes and prepare VSM for the group rather than product.

VSM in a Job Shop
The purpose of VSM is to map current state or visualize current state then try to map for a state without muda or wastages from the view point of the customer.
I think one can easily identify muda in any place whether it be a traditional tailor shop / job shop or a common restaurant where you have to prepare a specific dish as per the customer demand everytime.
VSM is very simple in case you understand its basics. It is a visualisation tool just like painter or photographer helps in visualisation.
