Defining Value Stream Mapping Areas
I am in process of implementing "value stream mapping" as a tool to serve industries. I am facing constraints in the implementation.
After documenting the process under review and charting the present value stream, what is the process to identify the areas having least value addition and are on highest priority of value stream optimization.

Value Stream Mapping Process
Important objective of VSM is to be able to identify and eliminate waste. Waste could be in form of unwanted process steps, or certain activity taking more time than needed, or waiting in a queue for some other activity to get completed.
One way would be to form a process step matrix, and map for example the time that each step should take (current, expected, and best case). Identify those steps or tasks that have a large difference between the current and best case. These are your Kaizen points. See what fine tuning is required here to make the process more efficient.
