I noticed an interesting article in the Harvard BR March 2010) providing some interesting thoughts on communities of practice. According to authors Richard McDermott and Douglas Archibald, communities of practice are LIKE TEAMS in that they have goals, deliverables, assigned leadership, accountability for results ands metrics. But they DIFFER FROM TEAMS in that they have a long-term orientation, peer collaboration and collective responsibility, deliberatly try to grow in resources and experts and carefully manage the knowledge in their domain.
