Performance Contracting for Tertiary Institutions in Kenya - The Death Bed of Innovation
Gitau Paul M, Member
While performance contracting has its place in quantifiable tasks, it leaves many questions than answers when introduced in a technical middle level institution where faculty staff should be keen to develop innovative minds of their trainees in non pre-determined tasks.
Little wonder there are many graduates from these institutions who cannot perform a basic task of their vocational training despite the certified confirmation of competences.
Why do the very instructors/tutors take their cars, furniture, cloths and plumbing to illiterate villages or back street artisans? Do they have the technical qualifications that their diplomas certify the have? However they rate very highly on performance contracting because it is a man eat man environment as the next generation is wasted through honoring best performer of the year award and promotions for "job well done" on the poor students.
