Disadvantages of Storytelling

I made considerable use of stories and anecdotes in evoking the desired reactions, emotions and commitment of my audience. It's a perfect way of getting the audience interested in one's talk - so I use them in the beginning, in the middle and/or end of my talk.
One lesson though is that the story may become too powerful
and invite the audience in sharing their stories, until both speaker and audience fall into the trap of sacrificing precious time
intended for more substantive discussions.
This situation is something trainers must watch out for if time is limited.
