Books on Storytelling in Business
Patrick Mulvey, Management Consultant, United States
Two excellent resources for business storytelling.
1. The Elements of Persuasion: Use Storytelling to Pitch Better, Sell Faster & Win More Business
by Richard Maxwell and Robert Dickman. This work will ground you in basics of passion, hero, antagonist or challenge, the moment of awareness, and the transformation. The medium is oriented towards auditory or word based communication.
2. The Back of the Napkin
by Dan Roam. This book teaches story telling as a series of stick figure images that anyone can be taught to easily do. In some cases, you might actually draw the idea (illustrate your story) in front of your audience. This is the low-tech alternative to a build slide.
Putting these two resources together can be very powerful. In fact a company was created to do exactly that; called Epipheo Studios and their two minute story-telling advertisements are very effective.
