Management by Initiatives!
To my personal considerations, MBO has had its day. It's time to add a new dimension to this 'age old' management style which reminds me of macho-management of the 60's and 70's (sic).
What should replace MBO is what I call MBI (Management by Initiatives). As the HR dynamics across organizational planes undergo a paradigm shift, it's high time that such management styles should be rendered with a
more human-centric approach. MBI advocates the rendering of a greater degree of freedom to subordinates in getting a task terminated with maximum optimization and minimum redundancy. The subordinates should be motivated by the manager to set task goals by themselves (read: initiatives).
Here I would like to highlight the importance of the appreciative inquiry approach (AI) as the latter opens doors to a conducive and comprehensive communication platform between the management and the workers.
MBI + AI = Organizational Success!
