We are caught in an evolutionary mismatch:
Our technological progress is outpacing our social progress.
The impact of robotics and artificial intelligence is already having a negative effect upon employment, education, and the distribution of income and wealth… Our socio/cultural systems have not begun to consider it.
The impact of complex chemical compounds like opioids, is having a negative effect on employment, health, education... Our socio/cultural systems are just beginning to consider it.
The complexity of our socio/cultural systems is such that proposed interventions that are based on conventional wisdom alone, will probably result in unintended consequences.
We need to apply a new set of tools to the analysis of our social systems. Tools that include the concepts of "Learning Organizations" as defined and advocated by Peter Senge coupled with tools that include the concepts of "
Systems Dynamics" as defined and advocated by Jay Forrester.
It would be great if this could be done at the global or national level, but that's not possible in today's political climate. It may be possible to start at the local level and build from there.
