This is a very practical and doable management initiative that does work most of the time. However, it requires investment in time at the beginning mostly. Getting staff to engage may be time-consuming and tedious, depending on their levels of experience.

@VINCENT MWESIGE: Regular report is required on assignments or a task. Analyzing reports and taking prompt action on critical issues are very important to achieving result. A case in point is the experience I gathered in managing an international NGO support project. Meeting timelines in submitting periodic report is very important in keeping the link with the project sponsor and the stakeholders. Thus, it helps in taking further decision making.
