The 4 Rules for Problem Analysis Trees

The key to build good problem analysis trees is to ensure that they comply with four rules:
1. Consistently answer to “why” or “how” (depending on your key question)
2. Progress from the key question to the analysis as they move to the right (or down)
3. Mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive (MECE)
4. Use an insightful breakdown.

Interesting. Any literature on this subject? I know the rules as "Why Why" rules, but I don't find any literature mentioning that either.
