Mauncho John, Manager, Kenya, Member
With my new role as logistics and warehouse manager for a major clothing retailer, I am mandated to measure the performance of logistics & warehouse function. Which areas should I focus on? Any example out there?

Lead time, inventory quantity/value, turn, out of stock, overstock, supplier performance against SLAa are a few key ones.
Also % orders filled 100% from stock, returns...

John, do not forget to monitor clients' satisfaction with respect to the client's main value generating processes!

John, the essence of your business model is product or inventory turnover. Apply SIPOC which will provide a high level map of your core processes. This will enable you to identify where the bottlenecks are. These bottlenecks can be divided into symptoms, physical causes and the deeper system causes. The areas to focus will become clear. Success.
