Post COVID-19 Performance Evaluations
A performance review, also called "performance evaluation" or "performance appraisal", is an appraisal in which typically a supervisor reviews an employee's performance at work. Throughout such review, the supervisor identifies the employee's strengths and weaknesses, sets goals and offers feedback for future performance.
But the COVID-19 crisis changed and may continue to affect the way we work. Today many people work remotely and as a result the daily level of face-to-face interaction between many superiors and their subordinates is reduced. Despite of this change, the company and employees still need relevant performance reviews.
Peer reviews can be a viable alternative to the above mentioned traditional performance evaluation system by a manager that is commonly used. The
360-degree feedback variant, also allows inputs by other staff members, fellow supervisors, customers and other people on an employees' performance. Thus a complete picture of the employees' performance levels can be achieved.
Of course there are advantages and disadvantages of peer review systems. One key advantages of peer reviews is that feedback can be obtained from a variety of colleagues and impartial supervisors. Thus, the feedback can be more objective. On the other hand, friendly or hostile relations can lead to biased peer reviews.
