Building Upon Mintzberg
Tim Dolan, Professor, Korea (South)
By using Mintzberg's well-articulated descriptions of Adhocratic structure and processes, we can see newer forms emerge closely related to his model, but with even more streamlined administrative cores.
The best examples of this trend are seen in the performing arts which draw upon a large pool of talent from musicians, actors, singers, writers, and specialized production workers. The line between old and new media
is largely one that can be identified by the relative size of their respective administrative cores. Now comes a blend of web technology, charisma and collective vision in the form of "smart mobs"
in which the administrative core is reduced to a visionary, a hard-drive, and web access with even the possession of a hard-drive becoming superfluous with the rise of cloud computing.
Our ability to access best practices in almost any organized endeavor is a another key factor in the shrinking of the administrative core.
