Now things have changed a lot and the size of present day organisations has become bigger, so most of the principles seem to matter less in the present context.

Agree that the concepts developed on the basis of smaller organizations tend to be inapplicable to bigger ones. However, it is worth asking why should they be. It seems that the leaders and managers, particularly of bigger organizations and those who have advanced from smaller ones, tend to be confused by the fact that the elements of bigger organizations are totally different. It is worth looking at bigger organizations as a set of smaller organizations not as a set of individuals.
 

 
Configurations are Useful

Configurations are useful even in large companies, a lot of large factories are mechanic bureaucracies or have a divisional form.
Remember these are just models, and they don´t pretend to be real.
