Mind Map for Mapping User Requirements to Software Features?
Hans Fleuren, Member
I am looking for suggestions to keep control of mapping the User Requirements to Software Features and Functional Testing Scenarios. Is a Mind Map a good tool for effectively describing the relationship between these 3 entities? Please enter your opinion or alternate solution you are working with.

Mind Mapping Complex Data

If "keep control" means the organisation and managing of the data to be displayed, yes Mind-Mapping (MM) is suitable.
However Meta Planning will be easier for initial layout. (Cards pinned to large sheets of paper on pin-boards - more easily moved until fully arranged - then stuck to the backing paper to retain / display). Can be layed out in MM format. Photo or Copy as mind-map - User requirement /branch, from these Software then Testing branches. Different colour per type.
Or each user requirement becomes the "title" from which stems the software then scenario branches. Need inter-map linkages (as in project mapping) to show connections.
Will need to cross-reference to linear writing for data that cannot be mind-mapped and/or other MMs for detail.
Could combine mind- and process-mapping (with images etc.) as the way to fully cover and display the data. (This is what evolved when I mapped the process for building a telephone exchange - linked to the process for a person receiving a phone).
