The Influence of the Work Environment on Employee Motivation
Everyone thinks that is is either the "boss" or the employee that has a direct reaction to motivation. From my experience in consulting and lecturing, the work environment plays a huge part as we spend 75% of our life at work. Think of the colours on the walls, space, furniture, plants, light, noise, flooring, etc. I believe this is foundational. Without this nothing will happen.

Influence of the Work Environment on Motivation is Considerable
The work environment goes a long way to how staff feel about their employer. In larger organizations, do staff have the right tools in furniture, technology, services and security? Are the offices healthy, are the spaces clean, is it well maintained, am I comfortable? Then when the work of teams are considered, are they effectively placed where they can communicate of collaborate in a manner to achieve the highest value of their efforts? Are they supported by how the office is developed with appropriate support spaces like meeting rooms or storage areas?
How the employer addresses the human basic needs upwards to a highly effective work out put strategy, forgetting about how the work environment can contribute, may mean the investment in the human capital component may not bring the the highest ROI.
