The Work from Home / Return to Office Policy: Mandatory or Voluntary?

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on companies and their employees has been massive, but seems to be decreasing now, depending on the country.
Many people were forced and have become accustomed to working from home. Companies must now implement a return policy / WFH policy for their company. As a manager, it's not easy to get agreement, cohesion and collegiality while our company or team is still not together on a regular basis. So let's exchange some thoughts…
  1. Do you believe going back to the office should be mandatory (employer decides) or voluntary (employee decides) or by mutual agreement?
  2. Factors: What role are the industry, the age of an employee, and the type of work to be performed playing in answering the 1st question?
