Why the name: Delhi Method
The name "Delphi" derives from the oracle of Delphi, which existed around the year 100 BC with earliest account 580-570 BC. This oracle is an ancient Greece priestess also referred to as Pythia who exerted considerable influence throughout the ancient Greece through prophecy telling. She was notably consulted before all major undertakings: wars, politics or the founding of colonies.

The Origin of the Name of the Delphi Method
Helmer and Dalkey were not particularly happy with the term "Delphi". Dalkey confirmed that it was rather unfortunate that the set of procedures developed at the RAND corporation, designed to improve methods of forecasting came to be known as "Delphi". He argued that the term implies something oracular, something smacking a little of the occult- whereas as a matter of fact precisely the opposite is involved. Delphi is primarily concerned with making the best you can all of a less than perfect fund of information.
