Employment Relationships in a Formal Organization
Jaap de Jonge, Innovation Consultant, Netherlands
The tricky part about this question is that the FORMAL ORGANIZATION (FO) is the description of the organization STRUCTURE (typically in an organization chart) and the RULES (policies, procedures and regulations) that make up an organization.
In other words it does NOT include the INFORMAL ORGANIZATION (IO), which is a concept in management practice that denotes the NETWORK OF SOCIAL INTERACTIONS among its employees. The IO is the aggregate of personal and social relationships that arise spontaneously as people associate with one another in the work environment.
In other words, strictly speaking any employee relations other than those defined in the organization structure are not part of the FO. 8-10-2019
