This appears to be a very helpful model for understanding management roles and planning management development. However, it also seems to be something of a misnomer as there is a clear difference between management and leadership. Leadership is about having a vision for a group that sets a direction that they follow. Leadership / Management Pipeline

If one assumes Drotter's position that management and leadership or two sides of the same coin and that one is actually a manager-leader (or a leader-manager), it is is not important whether this is called a management or a leadership pipeline.
During a session with Drotter, he indicated that he uses the terms synonymously.
