History of Cross Functional Teams

The article is well done, with exception that there is no citation-reference to the origination of cross-functional team. In fact, cross-functional team was used by Goodyear Rubber Company of Southern California in 1977-78 in the San Onofre Nuclear Generating System (SONGS) during installation of the primary, secondary protective coating systems in the sea water, and steam piping systems. There are many journals covering the events and as to the accessibility, it is still yet possible.

The description for the cross functional team sounds so specific that I would guess people were brought together who knew about "primary secondary protective coating systems in the sea water and steam piping systems". The number of people from different disciplines who would know about such things must be very limited. This is not to say it was not a cross functional team - I'm sure it was and highly successful but my gut reaction is that it was successful because members knew fundamentally about the basic product they had to deliver.
