I like the implementation part of the summary in the knowledge center that states there should be a pre-meeting so that the cross functional team members could socialize before they get to the meeting to work on the different parts of the plan and collaborate together.

Socializing Cross Functional Teams and Organizational Culture

While endorsing the pre-meeting socializing 'get together' concept, I would like to go a step further by upholding a corporate social culture where inter-departmental and intra-departmental social and professional exchanges are a part of the company. A "big team culture" that flows in naturally.
Such a big-team-culture will ace the all-round organizational performance.

Cross-Functional Culture and Leadership

@Arif ur Rehman: Excellent suggestion for modern companies with a lot of multi-disciplinary or cross-functional teams. You can't just focus on the innovation teams alone, but you also need to address the overall corporate culture. Otherwise the CFTs will never work really well. Leaders should create the right conditions and culture for CFTs to flourish. One example is to constantly stress (the reasons for) the need for working together across domains, functions, departments, etc.
